The Club’s bright and airy environment is the perfect place for members and guests to take advantage of our facilities. The family friendly bistro area that leads onto the sports deck to catch the afternoon breeze is the ideal setting to enjoy a chilled refreshment. Perfecto! Full TAB, KENO and a separate Poker machine area keep the adrenaline running. Recreational sports and other clubs use our facilities for activities such as bocce (Italian bowls), martial arts, remote drift cars, dance, bridge and indoor bowls while also supporting all aspects of summer and winter sports such as football, rugby league, hockey and cricket. History at a glance In 1960 the local Italian population came together to establish an association to represent their community and display their heritage and also to help to integrate into the community at large. This was a period of great commitment. There were many ideas to be shared and hurdles to be overcome. Without the tireless hours given by the Foundation Committee and the members and the donations that were received, the Italo-Australian Clubs existence would not have been possible. The inaugural meeting took place in the Catholic School Parish of North Lismore on 20th November 1960 where more than seventy people attended, including Mr Fiorelli of the Marconi Club, Sydney. After construction was completed, the liquor license was granted and held by the first Club Secretary, Renzo Guist. The Italo-Australian Sports & Recreation Club officially opened on the 27th April 1963. The club enjoyed monumental success in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s with a strong community presence and a respected brand name that had spread its network throughout the North Coast and interstate. It fostered the home of great food, great sport and great atmosphere that so many people had come to embrace. The entertainment was of national and international standard with the likes of Gina Lollobgigida, Midnight Oil, The Angels, Cold Chisel and Men At Work all gracing the stage. The club employed resident bands that filled the venue week in, week out such as The Astronauts, Freedom and Blue Express. Today, the Club strives to provide its members with the highest level of service and to build once again, the reputation as the best venue in town for live music and entertainment.
